Radar A Scope and Cross Section Simulator (RACS)
The Searchwater 2000MR in the Nimrod MRA4 has the ability to generate range profiles of targets to provide information to distinguish between different ships. Igence completed a contract to supply a simulator to facilitate the generation of such profiles for use as a stand alone training aid and for use in the wider simulator suite.
The Radar A Scope and Cross Section Simulator provides:
- Simulation of radar range profiles for any target. This can be viewed from any aspect angle, both in azimuth and elevation
- Profiles of wakes, adjustable for ship’s speed and sea state, can also be simulated
- Simulated profiles can be adjusted and refined to conform to practical experience with the actual radar
- Radar cross section characteristics, generated to simulate the fade characteristics of each target and the variation with aspect angle
- Files which can be stored for use in the larger Nimrod MRA4 Simulator
The RACS was accepted in advance of the contract date and is now in active use at RAF Kinloss.
